Kochi Design Week 2019 and Pinmicro partner to deliver India’s first IoT-enabled smart event using “eventplus”

The Kochi Design Week (KDW) that concluded last month, not only re established its position as India’s largest design festival, but also became the first event in India to introduce IoT-enabled smart event technology to improve the visitor experience, as well and use real-time event analytics for event management. KDW – a Kerala Government initiative partnered with Pinmicro – a Japanese startup to leverage Pinmicro’s “eventplus” platform that has been used by 350+ events globally. The 2019 event which attracted 5500+ unique visitors, was not only a significant increase compared last year, but also enhanced the visitor experience by using “eventplus” platform for the first time in India.

As India’s largest design festival, the event brought together instigators from different parts of the world to disrupt, imagine, ideate, innovate, and design for a better tomorrow. After a successful 2018 edition, KDW 2019 consisted of an array of independent events stitched together for individuals to learn and interact through workshops, panel discussions, keynote speeches, exhibitions, and discuss with the industry experts on the future of design.

KDW 2019 focused on creating a sustainable ecosystem through innovative and visionary technology enabled & design thinking. Using Pinmicro’s “eventplus” platform for paperless ticketing, user registration, visitor management and real-time traffic analysis, KDW managed all aspects of digital engagement with visitors during the event. The KDW mobile application (a part of the eventplus mobile channel) provided custom schedule planners, event navigation, food voucher management, user alerts/notifications along with real-time booth rankings and activity heatmaps.

“eventplus” uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) IoT hardware placed at strategic locations at the event venue, to capture real-time location information which is then processed on the eventplus cloud to generate real-time insights and operational event dashboards.

Kochi Design Week plans to host an even larger design event in 2020 and has set its ambitions to become the largest design event globally in the coming years.
